OEM 10g Monitoring Templates & Certain Metrics

945183Aug 6 2012 — edited Aug 6 2012
Hi All,

I've searched until I was blue in the face and have not been able to find any information specific to what I need. I was hoping someone could tell me if it's possible at all?

I am very new to OEM and have recently started utilising the Repository DB for certain reports. The problem I have is that my reporting is Daily yet the Upload Interval for some of the metrics I report on is set to Collect and Upload every 7 days which throws off my report. I've got a few options to fix this and one potential that I'm unsure about.

1. Amend the database.xmlp file to change the metric collection interval to every couple of hours ratgher than every 7 days. (I want to avoid this as the estate that OEM reports on is huge so doing this will involve me jumping on to each and every Host to make this change)

2. Similar to above run the emctl command line to amend the collection interval. (As above this would need me to jump onto every box so again i want to avoid.

3. Wrap up the emctl command into a SQL statement i.e !emctl blah blah within a .sql file and run this centrally from OEM on all targets. (Not tested just a theory that it should work)

4. The one I'm unsure about but seems the best approach. I was wondering whether it is possible to create a new Monitoring Template from the existing templates and add the tbspAllocation metric to it with a better collection interval and then implement this via OEM which in theory should then apply the change to all known targets.

I specifically need to metrics here. the tbspAllocation which reports on the Size of the tablespace and also another for the max_db_files parameter which appears to be set at a Collect once interval as none of the values have updated for a while in the OEM Rep DB.

If i could go with Option 4 I would be really happy as it will be a big undertaking logging onto all the host machines and then again if something else crops up. Changing it centrally on OEM would be the best way to go, Shame there isn't anyway to do this currently!

If anyone could offer any advice it would be much appreciated!!

Many Thanks

Ryan
