OCI.DLL can not be deleted

user878954Jul 24 2012 — edited Jul 24 2012
Hi everybody,

I had to install Oracle Client 11g and then Siebel Ded. Client 8.1 on a Windows machine.
The thing is that on that machine it was installed Oracle Instant Client 10g and Siebel Ded. Client 7.7.

It was my first time uninstalling the Oracle Instant Client which didn't even have a Start Menu entry.

My mistake was not to use the autorun.exe to make the deinstallation. I only deleted the Oracle Client directories and the corresponding entries in the Registry Editor.
Another point is that I couldn't delete the whole Oracle Client directory with the file oci.dll (under BIN subdirectory). I moved the Oracle directory containing this file to another place and then renamed it. I installed then Oracle Client 11g and then Siebel Ded. client.

The database connection works via SQLPLUS with the new installed Oracle Client. But I am worried that sooner or later my mistake of not removing the whole Oracle Client 10g via autorun.exe will cause problems.

Can someone confirm me if it is so?

Would appreciate!
