Occasional slowdown problem when using Resultset

843859Jan 15 2007 — edited Jan 22 2007
Hi guys,

i have an application performing a batch job each day and it makes use of Resultset to access a database server. however, i recently encountered a slowdown problem with the process - which takes several times as long to complete.

i tried a rerun on two different days using data of approximately the same size:
one is fine, finished quickly
one is not fine: took a few secs per record (as compared to milliseconds in the first case)
problem seems to lie with the rs.next, rs.getString, rs.getXX statements taking a long time to run

the data size for the everyday runs are roughly the same, but once in a few runs, this slowdown seems to ('unpredictably') happen.

have you guys experienced any similar problem with Resultset before? would really appreciate any help or tips from the experts here... thx...

Valerie
