oc4j http session persistence in dev

OC4J (ver. 10.1.3.5) is supposed to persist http session objects if persistence-path attribute is set in orion-web.xml <orion-web-app/>, such as:

persistence-path="./persistDir"

Has anyone successfully gotten this to work, where their sessions are restored after a redeploy or such? If so, am I doing something wrong or are there other steps I have to take?
