ObjectCategory vs ObjectClass

807573Sep 18 2008 — edited Sep 19 2008
I read in several places that to optimize LDAP queries, one should use objectCategory instead of objectClass because objectCategory in single-valued and indexed where as objectClass is multi-valued and not indexed. Can anyone tell me what is objectCategory and what is the difference between objectCategory and objectClass? Is objectCategory MS Active specific or is it generic (LDAP spec)? Is it a MUST attribute or an optional one?

Thank
