OBIEE without ETL or Data modeling?

Ashok KasiviswanathanJul 31 2010 — edited Aug 10 2010
Hello Everyone,

My client purchased OBIEE recently . They have dumped all the tables from source database (S_TABLES) into the Warehouse database (same S_TABLES) without using any modeling or ETL involved. So ultimately it is nothing but a data dump with tables having no primary keys or foreign keys. Now, they want me to dump these tables into the physical layer, and design the schema in the BML layer with facts and dimensions.

I have seen examples in OracleAnalyticsApps.RPD where OLTP tables are dumped in physical layer , and facts and dimensions built in BML layer. But even here they were relationships maintained between these tables. In my case , there are tables without any relationships at all , but ultimately reports needs to be created using these tables.

1. My question is , can it be possible to accomplish this, like without any ETL or modeling involved?.

2. Even if I can create a view in physical layer , shouldn't I atleast have primary and foreign keys present in the tables ?

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
