Novell password reset

I integrated OIM with Novell eDir. Now when an end-user tried to change password through OIM console, OIM sends the new password to Novell,
But it does not set the password expiration interval to +30, what this means is, if the user logs into Novell directly, he will be forced to change password.
Any idea how to over come this problem?
