Not able to set autotrace on

Hi , Iam not able to setthe auto trace on.here are the details below

Connected to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0

Connected as kiranmai

SQL> spool on;

Started spooling to C:\Program Files\PLSQL Developer\on.lst

SQL> set autotrace on .

Cannot SET AUTOTRACE

SQL> spool off;

Stopped spooling to C:\Program Files\PLSQL Developer\on.lst

how else can i set it ?? plz help me.Thanks ..
