Not able to display tables/views in SQL developer

827836Jan 2 2011 — edited Jan 4 2011
I'm a new SQL developer user with a new installation. When in the connections nav window, I see my db name and a listing of items below it - tables, views, indexes, etc. Problem is that when i click on 'tables' for instance, it does not show me a list of tables, altho it acts like it is looking for them. Also when i use the 'find database object' service below the connections tab, nothing is returned, altho i know i am searching for a table that exists.

I thought perhaps it wasn't finding tnsnames, so i put its location in preferences/database/advanced.

I'm sure its somethign simple ...?

thanks very much
