NoLogging

Hello All..
Can anyone tell me using nologging in delete operation actually prevents redo logs generation...
I am not sure of this and I am deleting millions of records from a record which is taking too much time..
Please if somebody can help me...
Thanx in advance
DELETE FROM Table_name nologging Where Condition.....
