No make file in /usr/bin

Trying to install Ora client (just client) on Sles Linux x86-64.
Installer runs till the point of the linikng.
The the error is displayed:
Unbale to find make utility in location:/usr/bin/make
If I click Ignore,the the software is not linked and I cannot relink it manually
oracle@qa12:~/ora9ir2/sqlplus/lib> "make -f ins_sqlplus.mk install"
-bash: make -f ins_sqlplus.mk install: command not found

What can I do to fix that?
