NLS Territory and Language from AMERICAN TO UK ?

Can anyone tell me what the specific effect is of changing nls_lang language and territory from AMERICAN_AMERICA to ENGLISH_UNITED KINGDOM?

It's not clear from the docs I've read so far what will really change. I've read that it affects check contraints but I'd need to know more than that to make the decision.
