NIC cards for RAC configuration

I am trying to acquire hardware to build new RAC infrastructure but i am not sure how many NIC cards are needed per server and whats the ideal value for interconnect. i found in one of oracle document about nic cards minimum is 1 Gigabit NIC’s and switches but 10 Gigabit is ideally recommended.
