Newbie looking for reference material

I am a student working as an intern developing an intranet with the websphere application server on the ISeries. My experience in web development is working with php/mysql which is currently not an option. I have no experience in jsp or servlet development and I could use some suggestions on reference material.

I would also like to hear some feedback on the positive and negatives of jsp if anyone would like to share.
