Newbe question about RTT

Hello!

I have a SunSolaris Server working with oracle9i (I think the exact Version is not interessting this time).

Here my question:

I have a ping working now for about half a year and i found something which I can not explain. In the average i have a rtt of 200ms but from time to time (3 times a day) the rtt goes up to 64300ms and then you can really see the stuff waiting.

Why is that ?

I somewhere read in the Internet that it might be because of the oracle-network protocoll ?
