New to java - what is a good java editor?

hy guys, i'm very very new to java, i just started today to learn it at university.

so far i have downloaded the j2sdk-1_4_2_09 and installed it and i think i know how to compile.

at university as far as i knew we are not going to learn visual java (at least not at the begining) so i'm now looking for a good java editor.

so if someone can tell me what is a good java editor for a beginner like me and where to download it, i would much appreciate it?

and if you have some advices for a beginner, i would like to hear them :)
