new.gif on a list entry

I would like to add a new.gif on a new list entry. what specific field and format would that be done in/with? I already have new.gif associated to my application and uploaded in APEX.

I attempted to use the "Image" field in the list using a format of:
</br>
"#IMAGE#new.gif"
</br>
... with no sucsess.
