Need to remove Datafile(s) mistakenly created...

Hi All,
I have mistakently created one tablespace along with 22 data files but now I feel that 18 files whould have enough for data. Eech file size is 500m.Now my 2gb space has just allocated but not being used. Is there any way to confirm that the file# 19-22 are not yet filled and we can release 2gb by removing these 4 files? Kindly advise.
