Need some career advice....
673063Jan 12 2009 — edited Jan 15 2009I was wondering if anyone can offer up some career advice. I should start off by saying that my background is not in IT. I was a Business/Marketing major in college. Most of my experience after college has been in Human Resources and Recruiting (for about 5 years). These fields have allowed me to learn a little about systems as it pertains to Human Resources and Recruiting. However, I have recently been very interested in pursuing a career as an Oracle DBA. I have recently enrolled at DeVry University in order to obtain a 2nd Bachelor's degree (In Computer Information Systems w/ a focus in Database Management). I am doing this to increase my marketability and to get my foot in the door somewhere. I am also working full-time while pursuing this 2nd Bachelor's. My plan then is to become Oracle DBA ceritified through the cert courses. I guess my question is- with my unconventional backgound and getting started in IT later in life, does my plan sound like a good one? Does the Oracle DBA certificate hold a lot of weight? What are the typical entry level jobs before you can even become a DBA?
Sorry for all the questions, but I could really use some advice at this point- any advice.
Thanks!
