Need help to resolve error ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol

Hello,

I am trying to connect with to a Oracle 12c database through a application. I am getting error as "ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol". I have tried to install Oracle 12c client for the same but still I am getting error. Also tried to find the sqlnet.ora file on server to change SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION=8. Can any one help to resolve this. My application is old build and don't have source code with me as it is vendor application.
