Need Help in SOA an BPEL

Hi Everyone

I am very new to this Oracle SOA,BPEL and Jdevloper.

I am currently working in Oracle EBS R12.

We have a requirement of Integrating One Oracle R12 Instance with other and asked to look in to the SOA for the same.

I am looking for the following answers.

1. What do we mean by SOA, BPEL ? Can any body explain in layman terms.
2. What is first place to start with this SOA ,BPEL and Jdevloper?
3. Is there any Books Available for the same?
4. Will the SOA helps us in Integrating the Custom Objects and Custom Process in to another R12 system?
