Necessity of Pagefile

622350Feb 19 2008 — edited Feb 20 2008
We have a dedicated oracle server with 24GB of ram. Is there a reason to not "turn off" the pagefile? I would assume it would increase performance to disable the pagefile. I dont need a history of the pagefile, i know what it is and what it does, i also know you can't truly disable the pagefile. I know from my own expirience that disabling the pagefile usually increases performance, but ive never done this on a true DB server with a ton of ram. What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this on a DB server?

Specs:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Ent x64
Oracle 10g 64 bit
(2) Xeon 5130's
24GB DDR2-667 FB
(2) 73GB 15k SAS Raid1
(8) 300GB 15k SAS Raid10

Thanks
