navigation Menu not working after upgrade

All,
I am using custom dynamic query structure to build Navigation Menu as below.
sounds like a small annoying issue - after upgrade from 5.2 to apex 24.2 my Navigation Menu doesn't work as before.
Instead of opening pages in the same tab/current its now opening new tabs every time i navigate to another page.
What might be the issue ?
