The current entry on the navigation menu is highlighted (darker/lighter) for visual indication that is active in conjunction with the List entry is current for attribute in the list entry definition.

But for Level 2 items the color difference is not as pronounced because it is very close to the background color of the sub-menu items, see https://www.screencast.com/t/pHocXhAwPD
I tried using Theme Roller to change Navigation > Selected State > Background color but that changes both the background and selected colors so the problem remains, just with a different color, see https://www.screencast.com/t/YtFjMDJKIF
Similarly, how to change the hover color as you mouse over the menu?
