nano and solaris 11 issue

VolumetricSteveJul 1 2014 — edited Jul 2 2014

I can't seem to find this issue addressed anywhere, but each time I use nano with solaris 11, I run into the same kind of issue.

It only happens when I run nano from the main console of the computer solaris 11 is running on, but it happens *every* time.

What it does is...the cursor will jump around and using the arrow keys to seek through documents butchers what's being displayed on the screen and makes it impossible to safely edit any file.  I've ruined several solaris installs this way by trying to add a ; to the end of a file, only to find that nano placed it randomly inside the file I was editing.

I'm sure this has something to do with the terminal type, I thought I had fixed it once before but I wondered if anyone else out there has dealt with this.
