My team is using MV more like a auto refresh batch job. There're many MVs created for only this purpose so Oracle will automatically refresh MV and it won't commit until everything is done. The best thing about it is you don't have to worry about down time of the result table, users can use MV while it's being refreshed.

But my understanding of the purpose of MV is to allow query rewrite for performance improvement. Is it ok to use MV like what we do right now? Is there any bad impact? If there any better way to replace the current MVs to serve the purpose of batch load but no down time?
