Multiple Java Applets hang in Win 2000 Professional OS with SP 4

Hi, I have an applet application. This application when loads, creates a socket connection with the server in the backend. I am allowed to open multiple applets and exchange some messages with the server. This works fine when I open multiple applets from a Windows XP computer with SP2. But when I choose a machine of Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 it works for one single applet. If I open even two applets all the applications running there hang. Then I need to close everything manually. Could anyone provide any info on this?
