Multidimensionality in HFM

HI guys,
I have worked mostly in Essbase and planning and I understand the concept of multidimensional database.
Recently I have started working in HFM and I wanted to know if the multidimensional concepts hold here also or not because I see for HFM everything is stored in Relational database. But I see that just as essbase has dimensions , HFM also has dimensions.

I wanted to know that if we load data in HFM application, then do we need to specify at least one member from each dimension just as we load in essbase.
Are the multidimensal concepts valid in HFM also?

what are line items details in HFM?

I am relatively new to HFM and any help will be appreciated.
