multi row check box in apex form

I want to create the check box in oracle apex multi-row form. I tried this one

select EMPNO,

   ENAME,

   DNAME,

   LOCATION,

   JOB,

   SAL,

   STATUS,

APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(1,empno) "Select",

apex_item.checkbox(1,empno) del

from EMP_DETAILS_V;

I get the following text in place of check box. Please help.
