MS JVM vs. Sun's JVM

843811Apr 26 2004 — edited Oct 26 2004
First time on this forum and in need of help.

Hopefully I can explain this in writing.

Here goes.

I recently upgraded from WIN 98 to WIN XP Pro SP1. Prior to this upgrade I new nothing about JVM either from Sun or MS and now I have a problem that has required me to get up to speed quickly.

At work we use Lights-Out cards(so we don't require monitors for every server) to access our production servers(HP/COMPAQ DL370 1U's). Prior to my upgrade I had no problem accessing the production servers using IE 6.0 to access the Lights-Out(LO) card(RILO-Remote Insight lights-Out).

As I began to set up my new machine I was unable to "get to" my production servers. As a policy at work our new machines are coming pre-configured with Sun's JVM(the latest version). I noticed that once I installed MS Visual Studio 6 with SP3, Microsoft's JVM automatically was installed giving me both JVM's. Once this occurred access through RILO was unavailable. I would simply get a box with a small red X in the upper left corner. I have surfed the web and have done everything I can find related to why I am getting this 'red X box'. I have even found info on uninstalling MS JVM(I want to have only Sun's which is why I came to this forum) which I have done. My browser's options don't even show MS JVM anymore. As far as i can tell I only have SUN JVM enabled yet it is still not working. When I go to some sites I get messages informing me that applets cannot run or that JAVA is not installed yet when I go to install via Sun it says I already have it. Confused!!!!! Help?

Also, a fellow employee bypassed Visual Studio 6 SP3 and went right to SP5 and has no problem getting to our servers via RILO. Her IE internet options are showing that she has both JVM's(MS and SUN) so somewhere along the line MS JVM was installed on her machine yet she has no problem.

Several other employees have installed VS6 SP3 and have similar problems as I.

Is there anyhting I may be missing or a registry setting that I should be checking?? Please help???
