mpt2: fault detected in device; service unavailable

I have connected an external sci raid box to my sun fire v440z running solaris 9on the onboard scsi connetor9 ( not installed any aditional scsi card ). I am getting this error on the screen

mpt2: fault detected in device; service unavailable
mpt2: mpt_ioc_enable_port failed
/pci@1f, 700000/scsi@2 ( mpt2):
attached failed.
/pci@1f, 700000/scsi@2,1 (mpt3):
got external scsi bus reset
warning: /pci@1f,700000

and the storage box does not get recognised and as the storage box partions are entered in the vfstab it keeps rebooting.
