Mounting / starting Oracle DB

Can anybody explain me the meaning of mounting / opening / starting the database/starting the instance, and the proper sequence of followig activities. I am a developer. Not much knowledge in DBA. Please help me.
Mounting DB
opening DB
starting DB
allocating memory area (SGA)
Starting the Instance
