MMU MISS on boot

807559Jul 13 2001 — edited Jul 13 2001
On boot up now I get Fast Data access: MMU MISS and then the OK prompt. Anyone know what is wrong or how to fix it without a reinstall. I can boot cdrom. Here are the details.

I was doing CAD work one day and the computer started slowing down and mixing up images on the screen like a windows computer does when it freezes. I was kicked out to the command line that you get on boot up , with the correct prompt "calvin%" but when I tried typing, each character I typed was represented by about a dozen characters of garbage. So I killed the power and rebooted. I got an error that said "Fast Data access MMU MISS". I was told that was the Memory module unit so I pulled out 1 pair of ram leaving two 16MB's, the same problem. Replaced those with the two 32MB's still the same problem. I put all 96 MB of ram back in and pulled the main Hard Drive. Now I get "Can't open boot device" as the error message. put the HD back in and after the MMU MISS error at the "OK" prompt I type "boot cdrom" and then solaris loads off of the cd. I go into format and analyze the main HD after mounting it and it shows two bad areas on the HD. I try to fix it, but it then says they don't appear to be bad. I tell it to fix it anyways and reanalyze the HD and the same two spots are bad. Try to reboot and get the same MMU MISS error.

Here is the entire boot up display:
