The server-jre-8u171-windows-x64.tar.gz archive (as well as 172) do no longer ship the jre/bin/javaw.exe (and jabswitcher.exe) binary. There is no mentioning of this incompatible change in the release notes and it is quite inconvinient to not have a method to supress the dedicated java.exe console on Windows.
Is this a known regression and is there some hope it will get fixed? (I filed a bugreport with interal review ID 9053453 for this issue.
BTW: I also noticed that bin/java.exe and jre/bin/java.exe have different checksums/contents. What is the actual difference between those two binaries?
