Migration from HP-UX to Linux

chr1goJan 14 2009 — edited Jan 14 2009
Hi,

I have a little question and I hope someone can help me. At first I will tell you the situation. The version of the Oracle database is 8i and it is running on an HP-UX 11.0 System. If the production system crashs through a hardware failure or something else, our customer must stop their work. Our customer want to configure a virtual machine as a "standby system" on Linux. He is bind to use Oracle 8i. This means, if the production system crashed, a database backup would ne restored. Now my question: Can I use RMAN to restore the HP-UX oracle backups on the Linux standby system? Or can I only use Export/Import, because the operating systems are too different?

In the past I saw a picture on a training, where the author shows the interchangeability of operating systems with RMAN, but unfortunately I can't find this picture.

EDIT: Hmm I believe I confounded it with transportable tablespaces?!

Best regards
Christian
