Microsoft dropping Java from Win XP?

843811Jul 18 2001 — edited Jul 23 2001
Hi everybody,

Although you may have expected this months ago, just got a news from ComputerWorld that Microsoft is dropping Java code from Windows XP, although you can install it from their CDs.

My question is: does this mean the browser (either IE or Netscape) on XP will not be able to run Applets anymore unless the end users install JVM? Anybody knows this is the case?

I have some simple Applets that don't require anything newer than 1.0.2 and I really don't want the end users to install anything. Right now, I have some html files with gif animation and some appletson an auto-run cd.

Thanks.
