Messaging Backup - strategy

807574May 19 2009 — edited Feb 10 2020
I have looked at the alternatives of doing backups.

I see two alternatives, one is to back up the snapshots and the other is to use the imsbackup utility.

It looks like it is easier to restore a single users account by using imsbackup.

I'm going to let the database snapshots live it's own life, doing self repair if needed, and using imsbackup for manual restoration.

No one wants a disaster, that's why we have backups, as long as they exists, there is no real disaster. The text in the page below implies that one might need to backup more than the configuration directory and mail storage (by saying "Including the local configuration file at msg-svr-base/data/config").

If I have a complete backup of all mails from the imsbackup utility and also a backup of the configuration directory, what more do I need?

Of cource I need to a compleate backup of the ldap, but if we isolate it to messaging, what more could I possible need to backup?
