Merge Join Cartesian

618702May 29 2010 — edited May 29 2010
Hi Gurus,

I am wondering what exactly happening when we see this "Merge Join Cartesian" information in the explain plans? I have seen it showing up when i issue a table join and it really slows down the query.

Right now, i am using /*+ ORDERED */ hint to overcome it and make the sql enormously faster but i could not find the reason why it is dramatically increasing the performance.

I do know what the ordered hint does but i want to know why and when the merge join cartesian is happening and why its gone when i use the oracle hint ordered.

Thanks in anticipating

** Please note that i am currently using Oracle 10gR2 with Patchset 3 on HPUX v11.31
