McAfee and Java Virtual Machine

The company I work runs an application that is uses JDK 1.1. I am using Windows XP and installed the Java Virtual Machine as well as JDK 1.1. The application will not run though. The tech guys seem to think it is my McAfee, so I disable it. Still the application does not work. Do you think it is going to be neccessary to uninstall all of McAfee, or is there a work around this?
