Maximum Processes

I have a quick question..

What is the maximum number of processes I can spawn on a Server. I am trying to size up an email gateway system based on a scaling number of connections.

The small server would be a V100 (1 cpu) Sunfire and the Upgrade server would be an E280R (dual CPU)

Is there a limit to the number of processes based on the number of CPU's in the box? I found a parameter in some documentation that mentioned "max_nprocs" as the max number of procs allowed on the system, and it could be set from 138 -> 30,000.

Am I looking at an upper limit? or would I run out of Ram / Mhz before I reached "max_nprocs"?
