Maps running Slow

We have some maps running in row based target only mode with target tables are in update mode.These maps are taking long time to run. Is there any way we can improve their performance. The maps select about some 20k plus records and update about 100-200 records in each run. As these maps run continuously, less execution time is inevitable.
