Manual ASM Diskgroup rebalance

Hi,

We have Oracle 10g R2 RAC on HP-UX with Database on ASM. As we added different size Disk to an exisiting Diskgroup (which we should not have done) we want to do a manual rebalance.

Is it recommended to take the Database down for doing manual rebalance of Diskgroup?
Or is it ok for database to be up and running during manual rebalance?

Please advice.
