Is upgrading 9i to 11.2.0.3.8 same effort as upgrading 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3.8? Yes or No?
My current company have 9i Db before which was upgraded by 3rd party consultants to 11.2.0.1. I read the turnover docs and it seems complicated process (We call it DB1)
This company has also existing 11.2.0.3.5, which upon me being hired, I was task to apply quarterly patches like 11.2.0.3.6 , 11.2.0.3.7, 11.2.0.3.8
which for me are easier to apply.(We call it DB2)
Now my boss thought that since DB1 is already 11.2 and DB2 is also 11.2 I can apply also 11.2.0.3.8 straightforward to DB1 the same as I did to DB2.
So I explain to him that is it a major upgrade hence will take great efforts to do it. So, I am correct to tell that it is? Yes or No.
Afaik or in my opinion, if you are creating new Oracle Home and use dbca upgrade it is major. But if you are only patching 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.1.6 it is minor.
So upgrading 9i to 11.2.0.3.8 will take the same effort as when upgrading 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3.8? Yes or No?
