Luns/Disks Size for Large Databases

rsar001Jul 25 2018 — edited Jul 27 2018

Hi There,

We have an oracle database running Oracle 11.2.0.4 Enterprise edition on OVM machine running Linux 2.6. We've had a number of issues the past couple of days that we decided to build a new OVM image and migrate the data to it, and we're wondering what's the optimal LUN size for the underlying disks should be. Right now, we have about 60 100GB LUNS, using raw devices - but that seems like an over kill and probably out dated.

I couldn't find any Oracle recommendation out there when its gets to lun sizes on OVM; and yes I do realize different databases would have different requirements, but what's the mainstream for large OLTP systems? Our database is nearly 5TB in size.

What do other Oracle shops use out there in the wider community? Your thoughts and experience is highly appreciated.

Thanks
