Losing Internet Connection when running a Java App.

When I run a basic java application, I lose Internet Connection until its closed. I am unable to use a browser/email and skype etc.

Compiling and Running java via cmd.exe, I am running Windows XP.

Any suggestions of what it could be? I'm assuming I could have a problem with my machine, as I have never had a problem like this before.
