Logical Standby Database as Real Time Reporting Cum Disaster Recovery DB

Rajneesh S-OracleDec 6 2019 — edited Dec 6 2019

Hello All,

I know that physical stand by is always recommended for Disaster recovery DB as it replicates every thing and in supports comparatively fast data replication (than logical standby) and easy to setup.

However my need is to serve dual purpose- one is to open it for real time reporting where I can create some additional db objects like views to transform and aggregate data as per reporting needs and also need to cater Disaster recovery and High availability needs through my secondary site.

My question - Is it OK to use logical stand by for use case depicted in above or there is some restrictions, draw back/demerits and issues in using logical standby site as Disaster recovery environment?

I am looking for on cloud solution of real time reporting.

Thanks,

Rajneesh
