Logical IO, Pure Logical IO, Physical IO

Can some one clarify the below
1) difference between Logical IO and Pure Logical IO. When do these occur?
2) Why high logical IO is not good for performance.

I am confused by reading about these three IOs and the order in which these get invoked. Thanks.
