Logical Backup vs Physical Backup

All,

IBM AIX 5.3
ORACLE 10.2.0.3

I have question about backup and recovery method that i want to implement
What is preffered method for backup and recovery?
1) export /import (logical backup)
2) RMAN (Physical backup)

What advantage and disadvantage of each method?

your input will be appreciated.
