LOBS

SID3Jan 18 2010 — edited Jan 18 2010
Hi,

I came across this remark in a http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_large_object_lob.htm.

All of the internal LOB datatypes can be either stored inline (up to a maximum of 4000 bytes) or in an external LOB storage area (up to 4 gigabytes or the maximum datafile size on your platform) that is specified by a LOB storage declaration.

What is the actual maximum limit on an external LOB. Is it 4GB or the maximum datafile size. If a database has a max datafile size of say 30GB does that mean external LOB storage area can spawn upto 30GB.

Kindly explain. Incase of LOB, if we want to store data above 4GB how can we do it.

Any kind of suggestion or link will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

SID.
