Loading Data - YTD vs Periodic

Our HFM applications have been set up as YTD and we've always loaded data as YTD. Are there any issues with pushing some data into the system as Periodic? Are there any issues with rules populating statistical accounts using Periodic? We're not wanting to fully switch, but merely use the Periodic load for a handful of processes.
